Protecting the Plant Tissue Culture Process

The culturing of small pieces of plant seeds, tissues, explants, organs, cells or protoplasts in a nutrient medium, known as plant tissue culture, is used primarily for three applications, biotechnology, environmental issues, and research. Biotechnology often employs plant tissue culture for crop improvements like virus-free plant propagation. Applications of environmental issues consider conservation strategies like elite gemplasms preservation, while research applications can focus on topics like studies of morphogenesis and cell signaling. Regardless of the specific application, however, plant tissue culture should be done in aseptic conditions. These conditions can be achieved by using a laminar flow culturing hood.

Air Science® Plant Tissue Culture Hood

The Air Science Plant Tissue Culture Hood is a laminar flow hood that provides necessary aseptic conditions for plant tissue culture applications. It is engineered to protect the interior work surface, materials, and products from particulate contamination by using HEPA or ULPA filtration to create a contaminant-free work zone.

The Air Science Plant Tissue Culture Hood delivers ISO Class 5 positive air pressure in a laminar airflow pattern, creating a clean and controlled environment that prevents contamination from entering the work area. In addition, culturing hoods include an efficient filtration system equipped with HEPA or ULPA filters, which remove up to 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns or larger or 99.999% of particles 0.12 microns or larger, respectively. The Air Science exclusive Multiplex™ Filtration Technology used in the Plant Tissue Culture Hood is designed to provide comprehensive performance at an affordable price.
