Air Science Ductless Fume Hoods

Protect Your Workers and Surrounding Environment with Air Science® Ductless Equipment

Our ductless fume hoods adsorb fumes generated on the work surface via high-quality activated carbon filters, protecting workers and the surrounding environment. Our ductless fume hoods, or fume cupboards, are made in America at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified for compliance with stringent international product quality and environmental standards.

Continuous airflow across the work surface of our ductless fume hoods draws contamination away from the user, recycling clean air into your laboratory. Our ductless fume hoods provide energy savings, safety and convenience and are available in a variety of configurations, including mobile fume hoods and polypropylene fume hoods.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to our frequently asked questions and links to additional helpful information.

Because ducted fume hoods exhaust contaminated air outside the facility they are ideal for applications that generate high volumes of hazardous vapors or those that work with a wider range of chemical families.

Ductless fume hoods are ideal for applications that have lower volumes of hazardous vapors and benefit from the greater flexibility and potential cost savings of a ductless unit. For more information on the pros and cons of ductless and ducted fume hoods, download our free ebook, “Ductless vs Ducted Venting Options.”

The majority of our ductless fume hoods do not come with a filter installed because the proper activated carbon filter is dependent on your application.

The effectiveness of any ductless fume hood is dependent on the activated carbon filter used. It is therefore essential to select the most appropriate carbon filter for your application. The proper activated carbon filter to use for your ductless fume hood is determined by the class of chemicals used in your application. For assistance determining which activated carbon filter is right for your ductless fume hood applications, complete our SEFA Chemical Compatibility questionnaire.

High-quality replacement activated carbon filters as well as other consumables can be purchased online from www.filtco.com.

No. Ductless fume hoods typically rely on activated carbon filters which adsorb vapors, aerosols and volatile chemicals generated on the work surface.

When fitted with HEPA or ULPA filters, ductless fume hoods function as a Class I BSC and can also provide particulate protection. However, only Class II and Class III biological safety cabinets provide operator protection from airborne particulates and biologicals.

While a ductless fume hood protects personnel and the environment by containing emissions from the work surface, the face velocity of the air movement, together with the shape of the front work surface frame, is not designed to contain biological agents. Only a certified Class II or Class III BSC should be used in applications that require protection against infectious or potentially infectious agents. Learn more about ductless fume hoods vs BSCs.
